Metal Wheels

What is better a metal or wooden framed bed? by Vincent Rogers
It is important to choose a good bed frame. Frames provide support for mattresses, which in turn support the body. An ideal frame must provide stability to the bed’s structure and solidly support the mattress. A solid frame costs more but is well worth the money. Different types are available in the market. Their frames are either made out of wood or metal. Here is a comparison of metal with wooden frames:
Metal frames are simple structures. The frame is made with iron, wrought iron or hand casting, and it sits on casters (or wheels). These frames are available in twin, queen and king sizes. The metal frame of the king sized bed needs extra support in the centre. The biggest advantage of these frames is that they are very cheap. In fact, a low cost is the only advantage of a metal frame. Metal framed beds are cheaper than wooden ones and if cost is a major consideration, then metal frames get the thumbs up. However, they have disadvantages that far outweigh their cost benefit.
Wooden frames are constructed on the same lines as metal one’s. However, wooden beds are not supported by casters; they have legs to support them and that is why they are assembled higher off the floor and feature storage space. Headboards, footboards, mirrors, upholstery, etc., can be attached to wooden beds. These beds may be more expensive than metal ones but they are more solid and look like very robust pieces of furniture. They come in many varieties as well – bunk beds, 4-poster, sleigh bed, etc. The price of a wooden frame varies depending on the wood used, the shape of the bed, its attachments, and more.
Wooden beds can be modified and enhanced. Metal beds cannot be modified easily.
Metal bed frames are old-fashioned – they were preferred once upon a time. These days, people prefer wooden furniture.
Wooden beds are easy to handle and they really make a room look and feel good. Metal beds are created using tubular pipes and they look as if they have been created for a makeshift temporary purpose, and not for a home. Metal bed frames are more popular in dorms, as loft beds, and as children’s beds.
Metal beds come with DIY kits and the buyer is required to assemble his own bed. Wooden beds come ready made, the buyer is not required to assemble them.
Metal bed frames are noisy. Twist and turns on the bed can produce creaks and grunts from the bed’s frame. Wooden bed frames are more secure, solid and silent.
These were the key points of comparison between these two types of beds. The wooden bed frame wins hands down. It is stronger, stylish, secure, enhance-able, and it blends very well with the room.
